Bhubaneswar, May 29 (UNI) Bhubaneswar has joined the City Data for India Initiative, a collaboration of Tata Trusts and World Council on City Data to leverage high calibre data for improving urban planning, infrastructure investment and day-to-day operations management of these cities.

The City Data for India Initiative was launched by Tata Trusts in association with World Council on City Data (WCCD) and Price water house Coopers(PwC), India in 2016 with an objective of creating a culture of data driven decision making in Indian cities.

Along with Bhubaneswar the city of Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai and Vijayawada also joined the City Data for India Initiative. Pune, Jamshedpur and Surat have since been recognized as the first ever in India to achieve WCCD ISO 37120 certification.

The certification is an assurance that they have sufficient city level data to enhance service deliveries to their inhabitants, as desired under the Smart City Initiative of the Government of India.

The certification has led to a peer to peer benchmarking exercise, nationally and globally, and cross learning, especially in citizen engagement platforms, solid liquid waste management systems, and establishment of command and control systems for Urban Local Body services.
