Considering the relevance of intellectual rights, creative rights, and authorship in the age of continuous collage and inconsequential appropriation of themes and ideas, it is only fitting to have such a moment of conflict arise and be addressed through the medium, Instagram, that has been the most direct generator of these issues thus far. In a comparative walkthrough of Harvard GSD’s James Templeton Kelley Prize 2018 winner’s work, Miles Gertler, known from his office COMMONACCOUNTS (previously featured), presented us with a continuous, if not evident, copy/paste of his work. In the comparison, Miles compares his own design work from 2012 and 2016 to the 2018 Prize winning project from Harvard, pointing out impossibly to deny similarities if not identical copying.
