Jaipur, June 19: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has come with an action plan to get the ‘Pink City’ included in the World Heritage City’s list. The Principal Secretary of Local Self-Government, Naveen Mahajan chaired a meeting of officers from various departments on Monday.

The meeting included a presentation by private consultant establishment “Dron” regarding the steps to be taken to get the Walled City in World Heritage list. Mahajan instructed JMC Commissioner Ravi Jain to execute an action plan within a week.

Sources said that before including Jaipur in UNESCO’s list, the city must be freed from encroachment and illegal construction. The traffic system in the city needs improvement and areas surrounding heritage monuments like Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Isarlat should be enhanced.

Ravi Jain, CEO of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) said, “A team from UNESCO will visit the Walled City area in September. Directions have been issued to maintain the heritage structures in the Walled City area. Moreover, work to restore the façade around the Walled City is underway. Directions have been issued not to tamper with the originality of such structures.”

To make this a possibility, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation will work with Jaipur Smart City Ltd, Jaipur Development Authority, Amer Development Authority, JVVNL, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation and the Archaeology Department. A meeting will be arranged once again in the next week to present an action plan.
