Bhubaneswar, Jul 27 (UNI) Union Petroleum and natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan today urged Union panchayati raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to depute a high level enquiry team to probe into the actual dwelling units constructed under various Rural housing schemes in Odisha.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Mr Pradhan said ” With great consternation I would like to bring to your notice the eyewash being perpetuated by the Government of Odisha regarding rural housing schemes."

During the recently concluded Rath Yatra at Puri, the Odisha government he said had came up with misleading advertisements claiming that the State Government has completed over 17 lakh pucca houses for the rural poor under in the past four years under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY), a State Government sponsored scheme.
However, the State Government's own Rural Housing Odisha website states that only 2.8 lakh houses have been built under schemes exclusively sponsored by the State Government such as the BPGY and Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana.

Mr Pradhan said, there has been misrepresentation of facts regarding rural housing schemes by the Odisha government and, the appropriation of work done under rural housing schemes launched by the Central Government as exclusive State Government sponsored schemes.

This claim is preceded by an earlier attempt in 2016, when the state government made a specious statement that it had constructed 10 lakh Biju Pucca houses for rural poor, but when the matter was probed in Odisha Assembly on December 6, 2016, it shied away saying that the information regarding rural houses built under various schemes was in the process of being compiled.
