Edited collection to be published by Vernon Press

Fashion studies is a vibrant field of research, exploring the social significance of personal appearance and its complex intersections with wider cultural forces.

Vernon Press invites chapter proposals for an edited collection on the link between identity and style in British culture. Exploring fashion and personal style through the lens of gender, class and race, the collection may include a broad range of themes such as subcultural identity, the concept of masquerade, performance, body image, sexuality and personal and national politics. Chapter contributions may focus narrowly on a specific individual, work, social group/category, item of clothing or event to illustrate wider concerns, or, conversely, they may take a broader approach to address a small number of specific issues.

Proposals are welcomed from the Humanities and Social Sciences, particularly: History, Art History, Sociology, English Literature, Cultural Studies, and Film Studies

Please submit a proposal of approximately 200 words, including a summary, preliminary source base/bibliography and a short biographical note. Complete chapter lengths should be between 6000-8000 words.
