Organised by the British Council and Plymouth College of Art and supported through British Council’s Crafting Futures global programme

A three-day Making Futures conference in Cebu City, the Philippines, from the 6-8 March 2020 at the Quest Hotel. This Making Futures edition in Southeast Asia is a partnership between the British
Council and Plymouth College of Art and supported through the British Council’s Crafting Futures global programme.

Making Futures investigates contemporary craft and maker movements as ‘change agents’ within society, particularly in relation to sustainability agendas, social innovation and community regeneration. In the face of these challenges, contemporary craft and creative making find themselves implicated in a global calling that implies reassessment as to their contributions to issues of industry and work, gender and leadership, to sustainability, health and social innovation.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:

This edition is built around five Thematic Sessions that underpin the Making Futures series, plus a Partnership Networking session and Workshops. We are inviting 300 words abstracts for each of these, (for full details see the submission form here ), which are:

  • Lifecycles of Material Worlds (Sustainability in Action)
  • Crafting in Industry
  • Craft as Social Enterprise
  • Making Leaders: Crafting Leadership Cultures
  • Digital-Analogue Crafting
  • Building Craft Networks & Partnerships in Action

Workshops: Materials and Processes in Transformation: We encourage proposals for practice-led case studies, presentations based in critical-theoretical and historical analysis, and unconventional formats that might include performance, objects, AV, and other media and materials. The working language is English but the scope is international and, given the South East Asian location, we particularly welcome accounts from non-western contexts.
