KOLKATA: The much-anticipated Biswa Bangla gate or Kolkata Gate in New Town, which will house a hanging restaurant, is all set for inauguration. The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) is ready with the structure and is waiting to get a date fixed for the chief minister to inaugurate the 55-metre-high structure.

Hidco authorities have made repeated inspection of the structure, work of which had started from early 2017, to ensure safety arrangements. Earlier, there was a plan to fix a globe with Biswa Bangla logo in the middle of the gate but since it accidentally fell off from a height of around 40 meters last year, the authorities decided to scrap the idea of installing it.

The Hidco authorities had engaged IIT experts to conduct a wind study of the structure to assess the stability of the ring during different wind speed. The report was submitted a few weeks back, which certified the structure fit. Hidco had also conducted a structural stability with the help of a US-based Start Up with the help of sensors fixed on the columns. State urban development minister Firhad Hakim also inspected the structure last September.
