This conference series commenced in 1989 to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of state-of-the-art and cutting-edge research on computational and cognitive models of design creativity and became known as the "Heron island" conferences.

This conference, the Thirtieth Anniversary Heron island conference, aims to bring together both (1) the community of researchers who have presented their research at previous Heron island conferences, asking them to reflect on the trajectory and influence of their research, and (2) the community of researchers who commenced their research more recently, asking them to present their research by placing it within the context of the thirty years of preceding research.

A set of reflective and prospective papers that have been refereed by an international board of reviewers will be presented and proposed to be published as a book by Springer as part of the continuing archive on design creativity research.

Substantial periods of time at the conference will be set aside for both formal and informal discussion to create opportunities for peer-to-peer interactions, mutual learning and creativity-inspired new ideas.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Creativity is a fundamentally important topic in disciplines ranging from the more commonly associated fields of engineering, architecture and industrial design, to information technology and emerging areas in the social sciences, business and life sciences.

This conference seeks contributions on all aspects of design creativity in individual, collaborative, and/or social contexts with a particular focus on computational, cognitive and neurocognitive models of creative design, including but not  limited to:

  • Reflections and empirical evidence how creativity challenges and opportunities have changed over the last 30 years.
  • New theoretical models.
  • Innovation through computational and/or cognitive models of creativity as ways of problem finding as well as and solution generation.
  • Creativity as a focus for learning environments.
  • Creativity enhancing tools.
  • New modes of research: innovation by focusing on creative processes in research.

This conference aims to provide an integrative international forum for the presentation and discussion of state-of-the-art and cutting edge research and developments in computational, cognitive and neurocognitive models of creative design, grounded in the thirty years of research since the first Heron Island conference in 1989.

Two kinds of papers are being sought:

  • Papers from the community of researchers who have presented their research at previous "Heron island" conferences, asking them to reflect on the trajectory and influence of their research, and
  • Papers from the community of researchers who commenced their research more recently, asking them to present their research by placing it within the context of the thirty years of preceding research.
