The Grade 1 listed church is situated in the heart of York’s historic centre and lies in a conservation area immediately adjacent to York Minster. The church has been identified as requiring essential works, where an opportunity has been identified for the building to be refurbished and alterations made to create a space that is fit for the purposes of 21st century worship and mission.

The purpose of the re-ordered building is to provide a significant and attractive resource facility for engaging and welcoming people into the family of God, requiring a space which provides an open, welcoming, accessible and warm church environment, with a flexible interior arrangement which remains faithful to its heritage. The re-ordering will seek to embrace the use of modern technology to its fullest, while at the same time preserving the most significant historical and architectural aspects of the building.

In the first instance, Expressions of Interest are invited in accordance with the requirements set out in the preliminary briefing paper, which can be found on the competition website.
