The UNESCO notified monument will have the lighting after dusk, giving a memorable experience for tourists thronging the ancient port town. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) sources said the new attraction would be provided at Shore Temple under the Adarsh monuments scheme of the Union culture ministry. “We wanted to have the lighting illusion such that the marvelous beauty of the monument can be experienced at night. Plans are afoot to establish the facility by April,” a ASI official told TOI. As per plans, the lighting would be tweaked according to the moon. While the lighting would be less on a full moon night, its intenbsity will increase as the moon starts to wane.

People can view the extravaganza from a distance from the monument. “It would be a one-off experience for tourists, increasing the footfall for the purpose. The lighting will between sunset to 10pm such that visitors can enjoy the architecture of Shore Temple at night,” the official said. At present, lighting arrangements are not available. The state tourism department had set up floodlights a decade ago, though it is not in working condition.
