Edge Effects magazine is currently accepting submissions to a new series on Indigenous lands, waters, and ways of knowing—local and global, historical and contemporary. 

We invite previously unpublished essays, photo essays, oral histories, artwork, and other creative pieces that address Indigenous movements for sovereignty and self-determination—land rights, water rights, and by extension food sovereignty—as well as Indigenous-led movements for the Rights of Nature.

Interested contributors should send a full draft of their piece to the Edge Effects team at [email protected] by June 15. Drafts should be accompanied by a brief pitch (~250 words). Edge Effects publishes posts and podcasts about environmental and cultural change across the full sweep of human history. We cultivate a broad readership and authorship and feature content in many formats—text, image, video, and a podcast—while maintaining a commitment to clear, accessible prose. Recent posts cover subjects like decolonizing infrastructure, environmental ethnographies, and an artist’s 30-foot panorama of Haitian history. 

We are interested in engaging posts about the environment and society from a range of approaches, including scholarly and creative. We’re committed to publishing across boundaries, at the intersections of the sciences with the humanities, of academe with the public, of narrated pasts with imagined futures. We especially encourage submissions from graduate students, early career scholars, and those outside the traditional professoriate.
