Kerala is an aging society with a high life expectancy, it is also a social democratic welfare state. Which means senior citizens throng State treasuries and sub treasuries to collect their pension or other benefits. I've accompanied my father to many like this in Medical College - which boasts of having not even a single parking space. There is Not even a place to drop off senior citizens so that they can get out from a car or rickshaw without causing a traffic block and angry motorists honking. There is no footpath to access it or a lift in the building for differentially abled seniors. As an urbanist I don't support an automobile centric culture but senior citizens world over are given preference for ease of access. Why would we play such a cruel joke on elderly people when we boast of being India's foremost welfare state/society?
