The Kozhikode district administration will soon put in place a mechanism to streamline land use policy in all grama panchayats considering the density of settlements and their vulnerability.

The action comes based on a detailed report prepared by the Indian Institute of Architects, Calicut chapter, in association with the District Town and Country Planning Office and National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) after the floods during the southwest monsoon last year.

Some of the suggestions include incorporating No Development Zones (NDZ) in zoning strategies on land use, besides the existing Ecologically Sensitive and Coastal Regulation Zones.
