NID senior teacher Mihir Bholey said on Wednesday that cities were fast turning into congested and overcrowded villages.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Mitigating India’s Urban Challenges through Design, Technology and Innovation’ organized by the Geological Society of Patna Science College at the geology auditorium, Bholey stated, “Many metros in India are attracting the maximum rush of rural folks, creating serious problems of urbanization. If these are not properly addressed, the situation will be chaotic.”

The NID teacher pointed out that India had achieved 36% urbanization till date. “Although the wave of urbanization is sweeping the entire Asian subcontinent and giving it the kind of pre-eminence that Europe and North America enjoyed due to their industrial socio-economic set up, it is India and China, which are drawing attention. It is estimated that by 2025, around 2.5 billion Asians will turn into city dwellers which will be nearly 54% of the world’s urban population,” Bholey said.
