Letters to inform authorities about proposed interim arrangement for hawking solutions according to Master Plan as per detailed proposals submitted by hawkers in a report to DDA in June 2001 on which action had been assured and was awaited, 10.10.2001

VIJAY KAPUR, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Respected Sir,

Hawkers in Vasant Kunj, through their Vasant Kunj Rehri Patri Vyapari Ekta Manch, have been engaging with the DDA for nine months now to secure implementation of the statutory Delhi Master Plan’s provisions for space for them in markets, etc, here. In view of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s recent interventions and some subsequent developments, notably extensive removal and confiscation by DDA on 29th September 2001, they have approached the Federation of RWAs of Vasant Kunj for support.

The Federation considers it in the interest of flat residents that bonafide hawkers be accommodated here itself in accordance with the statutory Master Plan rather than be relocated in haats, which do not seem to be as holistic a solution as the one envisaged in the Master Plan. The Federation has, accordingly, issued the Manch a letter in support, which I am enclosing herewith.

We feel the authorities should support the hawkers’ efforts to be accommodated in a planned manner in public interest and look forward to hearing from you in this matter.

Best regards,

Respected Madam,

Hawkers in Vasant Kunj, through their VK Rehri Patri Vyapari Ekta Manch, have been engaging with the DDA for nine months now to secure implementation of the statutory Delhi Master Plan’s provisions for space for them in markets, etc, here and have approached the Federation for support. AMOD KANTH, JOINT COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

Respected Kanth Sahib,

Hawkers in Vasant Kunj, through their Vasant Kunj Rehri Patri Vyapari Ekta Manch, have been engaging with the DDA for nine months now to secure implementation of the statutory Delhi Master Plan’s provisions for space for them in markets, etc, here.

In view of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s recent interventions and some subsequent developments, notably extensive removal and confiscation by DDA on 29th September 2001, they have approached the Federation of RWAs of Vasant Kunj for support.

The Federation considers it in the interest of flat residents that bonafide hawkers serving our needs should be accommodated here itself in accordance with the statutory Master Plan rather than be relocated to some haat elsewhere, which is clearly not a well thought out and holistic solution to the problem.

The Federation has, accordingly, issued the Manch a letter in support, which I am enclosing herewith. We feel the authorities should support the hawkers’ efforts to be accommodated in a planned manner in public interest.

Your public-spirited initiatives in both personal and official spheres are well known and I look forward to your views in this matter.

Best regards,

SP AGARWAL, COMMISSIONER, MCD

Dear Sir,

The Federation has, accordingly, issued the Manch a letter in support, which I am enclosing herewith. We feel the authorities should support the hawkers’ efforts to be accommodated in a planned manner in public interest.

We would also like to draw your attention to a few sites that have been marked on the main road by municipal staff for hawkers. It is reported that some of those to be given tehbazari on these are not actually hawking here. In any case, we feel this road needs to be decongested and it is better to provide space for hawkers elsewhere in Vasant Kunj in line with the Master Plan. Kindly let us know the details of the larger scheme under which these roadside sites are being given for hawking even as there are other more appropriate places for which bonafide hawkers here have already requested DDA.

We look forward to hearing from you at the earliest.

Best regards,
