Parliamentary team to inspect KMDA project

KOLKATA, Jan. 13. - A team of the Standing Committee
of Parliament led by CPI-M MP Mr Mohammad Salim will
come to the city tonight for a two-day visit to
inspect the ongoing project of Kolkata Metropolitan
Development Authority (KMDA).
The team will also discuss the proposed projects taken
up by the agency under the National Urban Renewal
Mission (NURM). The team will submit its reports to
the Planning Commission and the state Urban
development department, a senior official of the Urban
Development department said. The team will visit the
ongoing project in the solid waste management sector
and visit Sewage Treatment Plants in some
municipalities. It will also visit water treatment
plants and projects undertaken up for environmental
development. The team will visit the projects taken up
by the agency in collaboration with the Kolkata
Municipal Corporation.
Mr PB Nag, secretary of the Development Employees
Joint Action Committee said that it was good that the
team was visiting some of the projects taken up by
KMDA. At the same time it should see that engineers
and technical employees of the agency are utilised and
not converted into mere supervisors, he added. - SNS
