Metro rail facility to be started in other cities: Reddy
New Delhi, Jan 28: As Delhi Metro gained nationwide popularity, Union
Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy today said metro rail facility
would be started in other cities of the country. After an inspection of
the metro rail tracks and facilities in the national capital today, the
Minister said he was impressed with the advanced public transport system
and similar facilities would be put in place in other big cities...
The GoM headed by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar would prepare
the policy ... The policy will be in place within a few weeks... Reddy
said the government has launched the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal
Mission, of which developing Metro Rail systems was an integral part...
Reddy also insisted on completion of the second and third phases of Metro
Rail by 2010, as Delhi would host the Commonwealth Games that year.
