THE Maharshi Karve Trophy and Kale Award for academic excellence in design
at the undergraduate level for students of architecture will be handed over
to the winner at the Balgandharva Rangmandir on January 26.

Instituted in 2001-02 by New York-based architect Vijay Kale, this award
worth Rs 50,000 is restricted to architecture students from Pune. This year
32 students from 10 architecture colleges participated in the first around
of competition out of which ten were shortlisted.

These students will present their projects - based on their subject in the
ninth semester - before a panel of seven jury members. Jury co-ordinator and
visiting faculty Uday Chipalkatty said, '' The idea is to award excellence
in design and keep high stakes so that the participants remain motivated''.
