Award winning structures to be announced at the event

HYDERABAD: The 12th INTACH-AP Awards - 2007 will be given away to six well conserved and preserved heritage buildings and precincts in the city on April 18 on the occasion of World Heritage Day.

Giving details to mediapersons here on Friday, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) State chapter convener Shravan Kumar and Awards Committee convener Sushil Kumar said of the 203 nominations received from the public, 24 nominations were short listed by a screening committee.

The judges panel then visited all the short listed structures to select the final six. The award winning heritage structures would be announced at the awards function to be held at Kakatiya Sheraton Hotel.

Good response

Mr.Sajjad Shahid, convener of the screening committee, said the awards were also to acknowledge individuals' effort in maintaining and retaining heritage buildings.

Enlisting of nominations evoked good response and for the first time water bodies like Osmansagar, and Himayatsagar also figured among nominations.

Mr. Shravan Kumar said the awards programme was launched in 1996 with the objective of creating awareness about conservation and re-use of man-made and natural heritage structures in the city.
