NEW DELHI: The Monitoring Committee, supervising the sealing drive in
Delhi, on Monday put the civic bodies in a state of confusion by asking
them not to implement the central notification for de-sealing of
premises without first taking prior consent from the Supreme Court.

In an afternoon despatch to Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the
committee set up by the apex court simultaneously wrote to the Municipal
Corporation Delhi (MCD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) asking
them to desist from implementing the recent notification.

The UD ministry, which had issued the notification, had ordered
de-sealing of farmhouses, warehouses and godowns on agricultural land  and
commercial establishments in unauthorised colonies, village abadi  areas
as well as its extensions. To spur the civic bodies into speedy
implementation of the notification, UD minister Jaipal Reddy had said
that the directive to put brakes on the sealing drive as well as to
de-seal the sealed premises was ‘‘legally valid'' and the implementing
agencies had no option but to implement the order.
