Archaeoacoustics: Spaces and Sound in the Ancient World

A multi-disciplinary forum for exploring the importance of sound in the ancient western world, particularly the role acoustic behavior may have had in the development and design of important architecture and ritual spaces.

Many of us may be too surrounded by noise to ever consider an ancient tradition of sculpting with sound.

The oldest buildings on Planet Earth are giving up hints for modern scientists.  

• What effect could unusual resonance effects have had on the people who built and used such spaces?  
• Did it change their brain activity?  
• Was the phenomenon deliberately manipulated?  
• What practices in other cultures seem to reflect an early human desire to tune in?  
• Why?  
• How can we apply this information today?
