... despite its limited size and occasional lack of focus, the show manages to capture a time when manufacturing was a central part of the urban experience, as well as the extraordinary range of invention that went into trying to make the modern factory an efficient and humane place to work. In doing so, it conveys the richness and texture of the industrial city before the arrival of pedestrian plazas, bicycle paths and waterfront promenades.
