Allegations of partiality and unequal pay refuse to die down at CEPT University. There seems to be an exodus of senior faculty members allegedly because the non-academic staff is receiving heftier salaries than the professors. The brain drain is also being blamed on the management's alleged bias against some faculty members. Administrative and non-academic employees hired in the past two years are reportedly being paid between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 48 lakh per annum whereas a senior professor earns less than Rs18 lakh per annum.

"For instance, Chirayu Bhatt, coordinator for President's office, and Anu Sutaria, head of University Staff Office, draw salary between Rs 1 lakh and Rs1.5 lakh per month. Similarly, academic director A Srivathsan, doctoral programme coordinator Saket Sarraf and CEPT Research and Development Foundation director Shailesh Trivedi take home salaries ranging Rs 1 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per month. In comparison, senior professors earn less than Rs1.5 lakh per month," allege reliable sources.

The list of senior faculty members with 25 to 35 years of experience includes names like C N Ray, Shrawan Acharya, Madhu Bharti, Shivanand Swamy, R Parthasarathy, Saswat Bandyopadhyay, and Anjana Vyas. LINKED IN Faculty members claim that many of the non-academic employees are connected to the new CEPT management and share good relations with the core CEPT team.

Mirror sent an e-mail to CEPT Registrar Anita Hiranandani on November 5, seeking information on resignations and recruitments that had taken place in the institute in the last two years. When no reply was forthcoming, Mirror contacted the registrar in person. She said, "We are working on your query but we would like to clarify that faculty members are paid salaries as per the University Grant Commission norms. We are also trying to raise salaries of assistant professors first. Then, we will rework salaries of senior professors.”

Dr R Parthasarathy, professor at Faculty of Planning, has resigned from CEPT University. The senior professor, who was also coordinator for the undergraduate planning programme, is joining Gujarat Institute of Development Research, Ahmedabad as director. Similarly, Dr Shrawan Kumar Acharya, a senior Professor at Faculty of Planning, has also tendered his resignation. He is rumoured to be joining Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. Though Prof Parthasarathy clarified that he is moving because he got a better offer from GIDR, the resignations have dampened the morale of other faculty members.
