Itanagar: Vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday called upon the scientific and research institutes, particularly the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (Nerist), for technological innovations and to adopt a "lab to land" technology.

Interacting with research scholars and faculty members of the institute at Nirjuli here, Naidu said the purpose of science is to make life better. "Research and inventions must add values to life by reducing difficulties and expenditures. Scientists must guide people towards alternate ways with innovative ideas and accordingly new technologies must be transferred to the field," he said. He exhorted students, research scholars and faculty members to find solutions to the challenges faced by people of the Northeast.

Naidu asked the institute's faculty and scholars to chalk out strategies and innovate technologies that will boost farmers' income. "Institutes should aim at reducing production costs, find value addition and generate gainful employment," he said.
