Architect BV Doshi, who has worked with Louis Kahn and Le Corbusier, said IIMA is a unique institution due to its historical significance and architectural planning done by Louis Kahn. The dormitories are the most important aspect of IIM as students spend most of their time there, Doshi averred. “They are not just essential but integral to life and learning at IIM. Everyone wishes to visit the historical campus from all over the world. So I wonder why the management of the IIM is in such a hurry to conclude demolition of a major part of the complex when there are alternatives that have already been tested and proven by the conservation experts on the campus,” he asked.

‘India has capacity, skills to preserve buildings’ Jaimini Mehta, one of Kahn’s students and former professor at CEPT University, said the campus was built in the 1960s, only a decade or so after independence and during the time of acute scarcity of resources and materials.
