Bridging The Rural-Urban Gap Through Design And Education | Mashable India

Getting your hands dirty through experiential learning is very important for a rich experience and that’s exactly what the design-education startup, Unbind, is all about. Founded by Vinay Varanasi, Unbind focuses on bridging the gap between academics and practice. Varanasi spoke to Mashable India about the idea behind Unbind, the need for practical knowledge, and creating social impact, as a part of our series - Innovation Powered by you, in association with Accenture. An architect by profession and a facilitator by passion, Varanasi told us that in designing colleges, students learn a lot about the western approach of what designing looks like. However, if one wants to learn designing in India, you have to go to India’s heart - Indian villages.

Varanasi wanted to have a space for designing and architectural students where they can get answers to all their questions, even the ones that are outside the scope of mainstream architecture. This is how Unbind came into the picture. Unbind conducts interactive workshops for students of architecture and design, that are primarily focussed on interactive learning. There’s also an immersion learning program called ‘Prabhaav’ that offers experiential learning to people by taking them to Indian villages. Prabhaav isn’t only limited to designing students but is for anyone who’s keen on exploring India’s design story.
