From computational design, to material performance and manipulation, to robotic fabrication, FABRICATE promotes the full spectrum of research and creative practice currently occurring within Architecture & Engineering.
Our Call for Work is open for submissions of built or partially built projects by individuals or collaborators in academia, practice and industry. We welcome submissions that examine how the latest digital design and fabrication technologies are enabling new creative and construction opportunities, and the many novel techniques being developed to bridge the difficult gap that exists between digital modeling and its realisation.
The submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts and those selected will be featured in the FABRICATE publication. A smaller selection of projects will be presented at the conference.
For the first phase, please submit your abstract (max 600 words) together with 10-15 images (these need to be available in high resolution should your work is selected for the publication).
FABRICATE 20201 will take place 2-4 April 2020 at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL London, and is co-chaired by Jane Burry and Jenny Sabin.

For 2020, FABRICATE is returning to its birthplace, the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL where substantial transformation in size, scope and outlook has occurred in recent years including completion of the deep retrofit of its main building at 22 Gordon Street in 2017. The project, designed by Hawkins\Brown, doubled the available space so that the building now provides over 1,200 students and 400 staffwith cutting-edge facilities, including open plan studios, exhibition spaces and the workshop known as Bmade (The Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange).
Significantly for FABRICATE the school has also expanded to a second location, Here East, located in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where it shares 6000 sq.m. of high volume space with UCL’s departments of Civil Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Design, and Sustainable Heritage. UCL at Here East is equipped with state of the art robotics and advanced prototyping tooling, environmental testing chambers, structural test rigs, performance and immersive spaces, and material labs, that each support new forms of education and research.
