To create a cultural complex space that can contain various activities of visitors, including local residents, by integrating a museum and a library

This competition aims to have a creative design so that 'Geomdan Museum·Library Cultural Complex' can become a landmark of the region as well as an attraction that anyone wants to visit as a unique and distinctive public building that can symbolize the region beyond an ordinary building.

To promote the specialization of public facilities representing the northwestern part of Incheon Metropolitan City and make them famous by planning a cultural complex

Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation and Korea Land and Housing Corporation have been preparing the establishment of a museum to promote the achievements of excavation of cultural assets in Geomdan New Town and to manage excavated relics. And Incheon Metropolitan City has been promoting the construction of a public library to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Incheon Public Library by solving the problem of insufficient storage space due to the increase in the collection of public libraries.

As cultural facilities representing the region, museums and libraries are expected to actively respond to the various needs of the times and to have a synergistic effect through mutual cooperation, so the integrated construction was promoted. It is planned to create a futuristic complex cultural cluster in which knowledge, history, people, technology, and environment are harmonized by merging material culture(museum) and archival culture(library). It is expected to establish itself as a local landmark through harmonious architecture.

박물관•도서관을 통합 건립하여 지역주민을 포함한 방문객들의 다채로운 활동을 담을 수 있는 복합문화공간 조성

본 공모는 검단 박물관·도서관 복합문화시설이 단순 건축물을 넘어선 지역을 상징할 수 있는 독특하고 개성 있는 공공건축물로써 누구나 방문하고 싶은 명소이자, 지역의 랜드마크가 될 수 있도록 창의적인 계획안을 마련하고자 한다.

인천광역시 서북부 지역을 대표하는 공공시설의 특화 및 명소화를 추진

인천도시공사와 한국토지주택공사는 검단 신도시 문화재 발굴 성과의 홍보 및 출토유물 관리를 위한 박물관 건립을 추진해 왔으며, 인천광역시는 공공도서관의 장서 증가에 따른 보존 공간 부족 문제 등을 해결하고, 인천 공공도서관 개관 100주년을 기념하기 위한 공공도서관 건립을 추진해 왔다.

박물관과 도서관은 지역을 대표하는 문화시설로서 시대의 다양한 니즈에 적극 부응하고, 상호 협력을 통한 상승효과가 클 것으로 기대되는 바, 통합건립을 추진하게 되었으며, 물질문화(박물관)와 기록문화(도서관)가 융합되어 지식·역사·사람·기술·환경이 어우러지는 미래적 복합문화 클러스터를 조성할 계획으로 조화로운 건축을 통해 지역의 랜드마크로서 자리매김할 것으로 기대한다.
