Conference organised by Stony Brook University - The State University of New York

The Tenth Quadrennial Italian Renaissance Sculpture Conference, known colloquially as “Provo-Athens,” will convene in Stony Brook, NY on 1-3 May 2025. (NB: This is a slight change in dates from a previous 'save the date' email.)

The conference will provide a forum for the presentation of new research on Italian sculpture during the Renaissance, broadly defined. In this 10th anniversary iteration, together with the traditional subjects of the conference, we are interested in chronological and geographic continuities, and also welcome proposals that explore the topic from peninsular, Mediterranean, Hispanic, and global perspectives through the early modern period. The conference offers opportunities for the convivial exchange of ideas in more informal settings and contexts. Keynote lectures by Denise Allen, Kelley Helmstutler di Dio, and Andrea Bacchi will speak to the chronological and methodological range of the conference.
