US architect has no word to describe Taj

[India News]: Agra, Oct 19 : A top US architect who has designed the  structure that would come up on the New York site of the demolished  World Trade Centre towers says Taj Mahal was beyond words and it had a  magical impact on him.

"It is beautiful beyond words and its impact is profoundly magical,"  Daniel Libeskind, the chief architect of the master plan for the Freedom  Tower coming up in place of twin towers erased by the Sep 11, 2001  terrorist attack told an audience of intellectuals and academia here  Tuesday.

He said it was not possible to build another Taj again. "Architecture is  not just bricks and mortar. It embodies spirituality and communicates  cultural and social values of the day," said the US cultural ambassador.

For him, architecture was a means of communication and every great piece  of architecture was a medium of cultural expression.

"It is like literature, poetry, mythology and story-telling providing  opportunities for creativity with a purpose and message," the master  architect said.

Talking about his most ambitious project coming up at the 16-acre site  at Ground Zero, Libeskind said it would be something unique constantly  reminding us how nationals of 96 countries perished in the terrorist attack.

The new Freedom Tower, over 1,700-foot tall, will spiritually connect  people with the devastated site associated with death, he added.

"We can't let terror win over democracy, over freedom, will be the  message in tune with the great American dream," Libeskind said.

He was all praise for Indian people and the architectural marvels  including the Taj and the Jantar Mantar. "Incredible people, so vibrant,  colourful, fresh and free," he said.
