Prof. Dr Errol D Souza
Director
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Dear Dr.Errol,

Ref: Save Louis Kahn Dormitories at IIM, Ahmedabad

We received information that IIM, Ahmedabad proposes to demolish the dormitories designed by Louis Kahn in collaboration with B V Doshi. This is a project of seminal universal value for Modern Architecture in India.

We request the Indian Institute of Management to reconsider the decision and the proposal to demolish the dormitories. There are several examples of similar Universities, who have bridged the prospects of both restoring its Modern Heritage as well as addressing the requirements of contemporary university needs.

We have been given to understand that the restoration of the Vikram Sarabhai Library has been appreciated by UNESCO for its efforts in conservation. We hope that IIM will continue it earlier efforts to conserve the heritage project.

We support the call by the President of the Council of Architecture, India to save the dormitories designed by Louis Kahn since the project is of great significance to the history of Architecture across the world.

In a joined letter, I tried to explicit my opinion about Kahn. And my worry.
